Congratulations on your purchase of a Gaited Mountain Horse! Here at Alloway Creek Farms we offer training for Gaited Mountain Horses only. Our goal is to have your horse trained and trail ready in twelve weeks. Horses in for under saddle work are required to be no less then two years of age, and preferably closer to three years old.

This requirement is for the health and welfare of the horse. In order to have a sound horse still able to hit the trails at age 20, horses should not be started under saddle to young. Here at the Alloway Creek Farms, horses in for training are required to stay a minimum of twelve weeks. Thirty days of riding is insufficent time to have a horse trained or trail ready. We do two to three weeks of ground training and ten weeks under saddle, the last three weeks of training are on trails.

We feel that a minimum of two weeks of ground training allows the horse to completely understand what we ask of them, in this way we teach them resistant free training. When we do begin riding them, they understand all the commands they have been taught on the ground, the last ten weeks is spent putting miles on the horse. Horses are excercised daily and owners are encouraged to come and observe their horses training. During the last three weeks of training we prefer that the owners take no less then two riding lessons per week on their horse so they understand all that their horse has been taught. This is included in the training fee.

Training Fee is $1,800.00 for twelve weeks. (Includes six riding lessons).
Additional training $150.00 per week.

Gaited Riding Lessons:

At Alloway Creek Farms we offer Gaited riding lessons. We have found that many times people who have purchased gaited horses have a difficult time getting and keeping their horses in gait.

Most times it is rider error that makes this happen. Many riders have riding experience with trotting horses only and are use to riding with a loose rein. Body posture, leg position and a completely different reining method is used to achieve gait.

We offer lessons using our horses and later on the owners horse to help the rider master the technique of riding gaited horses. For those who just want to learn to ride on a smooth gentle horse, we offer lessons to those folks also.

Lessons are one hour long at the rate of $50.00 per hour.
